Special Needs Ministry

Explore how Treasured Arrows Ministry provides appropriate accommodations for your child!

Our Mission Is...

We recognize that being in a family that is living with special needs can be a very lonely place. And our Mission for the Treasured Arrows Ministry is to acknowledge that each child's capabilities are different. God has entrusted us with His children to teach them to know, love and obey Jesus to the fullest of their capabilities. It is our intent to meet your child where they are at while providing the needed appropriate accommodations in a safe and caring atmosphere.

Our Goals Are...

  1. Providing a safe space with appropriate accommodations for your child(ren) in an atmosphere that helps them to learn and thrive to the best of their cognitive capabilities
  2. Welcoming each child with gentleness and care as we get to know them
  3. Provide a time where you can rest in God's presence in big church, knowing that your children are being cared for with gentleness and diligence to their needs
  4. Come alongside your family to help you go from surviving to thriving while providing appropriate resources and respite

Psalm 12:3-5

"Children are a Treasure from the LORD ; they are a reward from Him. Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior's hands. How Joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them! He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.”

What can I expect in the children's area?

We have a sensory room with calming music and low lighting. In this room are lots of different components to help your child when they are dysregulated and/or overstimulated in the other classrooms. We have a spectrum of accommodations available tailored to meet your child's unique sensory input needs. From Sensory Avoidance………………to Sensory Seeking.

If your child’s disability/disorder is such that he/she is unable to benefit from participating in a traditional Sunday school classroom, he/she may spend the service time in the Sensory classroom (currently only available during the 10:00 am service.)  The sensory classroom will provide:

  • Lessons that are taught in the traditional classroom modified accordingly to the children's needs on any given Sunday
  • Each child will be given the opportunity to participate at their ability and comfort level
  • Allergen free and artificial color free sensory snacks and gum
  • Sensory and special learning components including but not limited to... sensory seats, fidgets, noise canceling headphones, emotions and feelings books, along with many other sensory and special needs components used for accommodations.

The Spiritual theme of our room is The Fruit of the Spirit and is what we use a lot in our mornings together.

The Zones of Regulation are the emotional guide we use.

What do we not provide?

  • Therapy
  • Behavioral modification programs (but will follow through with programs in place as able based on parental guidance and tools provided to us.
  • Medical intervention (only in emergency situations.)

How do I get plugged in?

Every child is distinct and requires uniqueness in how they learn.

God enables us to be flexible and to adapt. Throw out all of the typical parenting strategies and replace behaviors with symptoms. Learning a child’s strengths and struggles helps us to teach them to know, love and obey Jesus to the fullest of their cognitive capabilities.

This is where you as their parent or caregiver come in.

  • We request you fill out the Child Intake Form. We know it can be challenging to share personal information with others. It is our hope that we are providing a safe non judgment experience for you to be authentic with us and in turn we will meet you where you are and your information will be kept confidential to only those in leadership in working with your children. After you have done this, you will then meet with our special needs director at church, to set up a specific plan tailored to your child and their unique needs.

We know that for every child each day can pose significant unique challenges.

  • We have a child specific daily report form that is posted here as well as available to you at the children's check in counter to let us know of any struggles your child may be experiencing on any given day coming into children ministry.

It helps us to be able to anticipate and hopefully foresee things that would trigger any possible symptoms that could result in response to those.
